History of Access to the Lighthouse
As an unmanned lighthouse since 1919, public access to the tower was a very rare treat. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority has been known to open the doors on special occasions (i.e. Australia Day) however the operation of regular tours had been hindered by many factors such as parking, public safety, signage, and most importantly, protection of the lighthouse apparatus.

Until 19.. the lighthouse was surrounded by private residences on an unsealed road, with limited space for parking. However, after many years of planning and hard work by various organisations and individuals, and expenditure of money awarded as grants was used to prepare the lighthouse for visitors and the lighthouse finally opened its doors to the public.

In early 2005, the local Surf Coast Shire awarded Eco-Logic the tender to conduct tours of the lighthouse and the official opening was held on Wednesday 2 November 2005.

Tours are nw available every weekend throughout the year as well as everyday during the school holidays. Private tours can also be booked during the week for groups of 4 or more.
